Undeniable character, culture, and plenty of craic—we wouldn’t expect anything less from Ireland’s capital. As a fiercely proud nation with a strong identity, Ireland’s pride is evident in Dublin, which was at the heart of the country’s fight for independence. In a land famed for its wit and humor, it will come as no surprise that storytelling thrives here—from its literary legacy as a UNESCO City of Literature and former home to renowned writers such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, and Samuel Beckett, to its lively residents who will no doubt charm you with their gift of the gab. Even the historical landmarks throughout the city tell stories of its Viking roots, Georgian heritage, and political upheaval, though in more recent years the city has evolved into a thriving tech and creativity hub. This transformation has extended to its food scene with a new generation of chefs earning recognition for making a culinary comeback. Despite its changes, nothing can alter its enduring pub culture (and for good reason—it’s an essential part of the Dublin experience) and lively spirit. Our tip to you—grab a Guinness and get involved with the craic. If there’s anywhere you’re guaranteed to have a good time, it’s Dublin. 

We’ve collaborated with friends of ECT, Victory Nwabu-Ekeoma, founder of Bia!Zine, a storytelling project about food, immigration and culture in Ireland, and creative copywriter Conor Cuniffe. Eat

“Eat in Host if you have some cash to spend,” says Conor Cuniffe. “Exciting chefs, great vibes, creative menus.” The decor is modest and simple, allowing the plates to do all of the talking. On the menu, you’ll find a mouthwatering selection of indulgent pasta dishes and quality cuts of meat that are cooked to perfection.

Stay

Enjoy a historic red brick townhouse that was originally constructed in 1878 and now offers modern luxury guest rooms. The Wilder offers several uniquely designed suites ranging from compact ‘shoeboxes’ for solo travelers, to deluxe suites that feature high ceilings, fireplaces, and a lounge area. Breakfast isn’t included in the price of the room, but it is available in the Garden Room offering cooked and continental options. Find it located near St Stephen’s Green.

Drink

“I loved the Vintage Cocktail Club in Temple Bar—really cool speakeasy vibes,” says ECT member Cindy B. . The 1920s-style bar is kitted out with vintage decor and nods to the prohibition era. On the menu, you’ll find a history of cocktails where you can choose from the 1920s-1930s era which features sours and fancy drinks, the 1940s-50s era which celebrates the arrival of Vodka, and more dating back to the 1700s.
