Casa Valentina’s Field Notes on Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Field Notes are firsthand travel recommendations for and by our ECT Clubhouse members. Get the lowdown on destinations across the globe from travelers and locals alike. This week, the team behind Casa Valentina shares their insider tips for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
A perfect intersection
Over the years of traveling to Puerto Vallarta, we came to fall in love with its natural beauty; it is the perfect intersection of tropical jungle, palm tree-covered mountains, and the stunning Bay of Banderas. PV is also home to some of the most welcoming and friendly people in Mexico, with a long history of supporting a vibrant tourism industry, sharing their culture with people from all over the world, no matter who they love, what they look like, or what they want to celebrate.
These lovely destination features prompted us to search for a getaway place of our own, and we ended up finding and opening Casa Valentina, a small private guest house that reflects the things we love about Puerto Vallarta: charming Mexican heritage, natural beauty, and inclusiveness.
Do
Casitas Maraika: One of our favorite excursions is to take a rideshare down to Boca de Tomatlan and then hire a boat to take us on a short ride to an exclusive beach club at a small hotel called Casitas Maraika. Situated on a small private beach, and only accessible by boat, this beach club has tables staggered along the rock ledge where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks while listening to relaxing music.
Other recommendations shared: An impressive sanctuary of local flora and fauna and the best time to head there. Head to the Clubhouse for the details.
Eat
Iguana Cafe: This cafe is one of the most stunning settings for a sunset cocktail, and just so happens to be located in a home previously owned and occupied by Elizabeth Taylor! Start here for a special evening and be sure to take photos on the tiny ‘love bridge’ that connects her house to the one owned by Richard Burton.
Other recommendations shared: an Italian restaurant in a truly remarkable setting, against the backdrop of open-air arches framing and illuminated church. Head to the Clubhouse for the details.
