This summer I spent two weeks in Mérida, Mexico working remotely while my kids attended Spanish immersion school. Mérida was an amazing city to be based out of for remote work and I got the chance to explore a lot of the city and surrounding areas on the weekends!
If you are looking to work remotely or stay for a longer visit, I highly recommend the dreamy Airbnb that we stayed at. It was quiet but within easy walking distance to Paseo de Montejo and Centro. Though a rental car is not necessary to get around the city, I rented a car to get my kids to school each day and Mérida felt very easy and safe to navigate. Here are some of the highlights from my trip:
Eat
Ramiro Cocina – This is a neighborhood gem! Within walking distance from the Airbnb they have a small menu that changes daily with an internal courtyard that transports you out of the busy city.
Drink
Agua de Mar - Delicious for dinner and fantastic natural wine selection! Be on the lookout for takeover events as well. We went for a takeover by a chef and natural wine importer from Mexico City.
Shop
Tags Alpargatas – Stop by to pick up a pair of custom alpargatas! The owner of Tags designs all of the fabric used in the shoes based on different Mexican and Yucatan inspirations. The shoes are made by local Mayan groups and sold at a very reasonable price with the goal to make them affordable by all! If you are in Mérida for longer than a week you can select the fabric and styling that you want and pick them up before you leave town.

A smoke-infused meal in “a magical setting where you can also watch the food being cooked on open flames”
