Who is Tyna Hoang?

I'm Tyna, a Viet-born, Texas-raised, New York-based food stylist and recipe developer. My passion project is an experiential pop-up, 'Em Ơi', featuring nostalgic Vietnamese dishes infused with new knowledge from my exploration and travels. I gravitate towards off the beaten path destinations, and I’m always in search for local street markets everywhere I go.

Where are you going and who with?

Italy! Catching the end of the Giro d'Italia cycling tour and tagging on some cross country road tripping.

Solo traveler or travel partner?

With my boyfriend. He's the cycling fan, but I fully take advantage of being able to adventure run during a marathon training block. I enjoy company while traveling, with boundaries for solo time...whether that means wandering off to the market alone or opting out of shared accommodations with friends. The best part about traveling with friends and partners is over-ordering food to share :)

What’s your travel style?

I'm most likely running away from the daily grind while searching for a new inspiration. So I typically gravitate towards a destination that is a city with easy access to the coast, mountains or desert. I admire modern architecture because, well...I'm a sucker for boutique hotels. Yet, it's important and grounding to be fully immersed in nature. Italy is perfect for the combination of what I'm seeking. I'm hoping to experience the concentration of modern society as well as exploring the rural coasts. Cycling and long runs are really fulfilling ways to tour a new city!

Describe how travel affects your well-being in 5 words.

Evokes curiosity, restorative, grounding and openness.

Carry-on or check-in?

5+ days = checked, bike = checked. Otherwise, carry-on.

Hotel or Airbnb?

Depends on the location. Perk of hotels is luggage storage, sometimes I'll stash dead weight while city bouncing for the week and stay at the same hotel upon my return.
